Subiaco sings relegation blues

A SHAKE up in the league this season has seen Subiaco Soccer Club’s female team relegated to the amateur divisions, a decision many at the club are unhappy with.
Both Subiaco and other teams in the league are up in arms about the changes, citing the difference in quality between the professional and amateur teams.
David John, manager of the women’s team at Subiaco is particularly upset about the change. He says many people at the club had become less competitive since they became amateur.
“The girls in my team don’t play like amateurs,” he said. “We go out there to win every week.”
And winning is something Subiaco’s women’s team has become used to over the last four weeks, being victorious in every game and scoring a whopping 18 goals.
Goalkeeper Sophie Hunstone believes that the team is a cut above the rest of the amateur league.
“We’ve played together for a few years now and are finding the competition a bit too easy,” she said.
Subiaco’s women’s team beat Noranda 5-2 away from home in their last game, despite missing key players and borrowing a dribbler from another team.
Football West, the organisation responsible for administering soccer in WA, has consistently reshaped the leagues over the past three years. This has lead to unhappiness from some quarters. The organisation was unavailable for comment regarding Subiaco’s demotion.
