Northern link line back in the picture

April 8, 2008

A train line linking the existing northern and Armadale lines is now back on John D’Orazio’s lobby-list, now the Mandurah line has been completed.

The independent MLA for Ballajura first proposed the project back in 2001, but then premier Geoff Gallop determined the Mandurah and northern lines would get funding priority.

Now both projects have been completed, Mr D’Orazio suggests the WA government should focus on upgrading transport in Perth’s north-eastern corridor.

“A cross regional railway link between the Joondalup line and Armadale line needs to be the next priority of the State Government,” he said in a release.

Mr D’Orazio’s proposed line would be integrated with buses to improve public transport to such suburbs as Ballajura, Morley, Noranda and Dianella.

“These industrial areas are notoriously difficult to get to on public transport, which is ludicrous, given the number of people who work in them,” Mr D’Orazio’s release lamented. “ Imagine how much easier it would be to get to work, or to a business in one of these areas if they were serviced by rail.”
