Busting commuters left in lurch

COMMUTERS at two stations on the Mandurah line have been left without a place to answer urgent calls of nature.
The Canning Bridge station, historically only a bus port but located at a major north, east, south and west hub, and the brand new Esplanade station in the city both lack public toilets.
“There have never been toilets at Canning Bridge and it was effectively just a bus shelter,” said the Public Transport Authority’s David Hynes.
He also noted restricted space was a limiting factor when designing the train station.
For the Esplanade train station, public toilets were not included because of the close proximity to the Esplanade busport. Mr Hynes said.
“There’s little point duplicating services,” he added. “We’re a public transport operation, not a public toilet operation.”
A commuter interviewed by eMUNews was less than impressed.
“With the number of commuters taking the Mandurah line, the lack of public toilets is a major design oversight,” said Tim Trainor, a 9-to-5 worker from Rossmoyne who rides the Mandurah line twice each weekday. “If they want to reduce traffic congestion, the PTA should be making public transport a more attractive option to the public.”
