A FORMER nurse from Kewdale will swap her thermometer for a hammer, when she coordinates an off-shore building project later this year.
Melva Molyneux plans to build a house in rural South Africa. It will have a ramp to enable its likely resident, a wheel-chair bound man in his early 20s, to leave his room.
“I am absolutely excited about the up-coming project,” Ms Molyneux said. “It is wonderful.”
Building the house is likely to cost $5,000, including cement, bricks and doorframe. The money will come from donations collected by Ms Molyneux.
“It is so important to help this man,” she said. “No longer confined to his room, this man could become self-sufficient”.
Ms Molyneux will travel to the Republic to oversee the project, set to begin in September and run for two weeks.
