NORTH LAKE Senior Campus is set to get a $234,800 demountable classroom.
“To my knowledge demountables do not have air conditioning and are supposed to be used for temporary accommodation most likely in emergency situations to meet short term needs,” said president of WA’s State School Teachers Union, Anne Gisborne. “I think schools should have a plan in place to replace these structures and substantiate for excess numbers”.
After eMU News was fobbed by school principal Mary Margett, we asked education department media spokesman Peter Cogan when the demountable would be built, if construction would affect other activities, whether there’d be air conditioning, and why a permanent classroom was not on the cards. He failed to provide information before deadline.
“These buildings are used to deal with the number of fluctuating students in schools,” was all Mr Cogan would proffer.
