PERTH’S children will be able to ride down a snow slope this winter, as the city transforms Forrest Place into a winter wonderland.
The event, Snowfields in the City, will see Forrest Place filled with artificial snow and a giant ski slope for two weeks in July.
Besides the colourful rubber tube ski slope, another highlight of the event is the special area provided to throw snowballs at targets.
“Snowfields In The City was a huge success when run in 2004 and it is back by popular demand,” said Perth council marketing manager Susan Parker. “It will be an exciting, fun event for kids and parents this coming school holidays.”
Council media spokeswoman Anna Forrest explained the city organises activities for children during the winter break every year. The 4-metre high slope, which will be re-made every night, comprises snow that is clean, safe and can even be eaten.
Attendants will be present to supervise the zooting ankle biters whom adults will be able to watch from the sidelines.
Height restrictions apply, and only children aged five to 13 years will be allowed to ski.
“Anyone bigger than that going on the slope will be a danger to people,” Ms Forrest explained. “The restrictions are to ensure everyone’s safe.
However, kids outside the age bracket can still join in the fun at the snowball area.
“For the older kids, they can make and throw snowballs at targets, but not mum and dad!” Ms Forrest said.
To operate between July 7 and 19, from 10am to 4pm, the snowfield will be free.
