Cruise to a different tune

PERTH hip hop fans are in for a treat, with the city’s first ever 1990’s hip hop cruise slated to pull out of the Barrack Street Jetty .

Co-organiser Ikee Rosson said that the cruise was a celebration of different cultures.

“This music cuts across the cultural barriers and this cruise aims to showcase how contemporary hip hop got to where it is,” Mr Rosson said.

The cruise has been branded a unique chance for hip-hop lovers to reconnect with classic rap.

The 90’s theme does not stop at the music, with revellers getting a chance to dress up as their favourite 90’s hip hop artist, or in their best pimp suits.

Mr Rosson said artists like The Roots, Ice Cube, NWA and many more would be in the mix.

The man tasked with feeding a music-hungry crowd is DJ Francis J, who’s well known in the Perth hip hop scene.

Mr Rosson’s cruisey colleague Andre Buford hoped the rappin’ boatride would be the beginning of a new partnership with the cruise operator.

“There are plans to host this cruise once every month, however like all businesses there has to be commercial value to its progression,” Mr Buford said.

Hip-hop fan Neville “The Hotmaker” Sabawo 22 was excited, hailing the cruise as a new beginning.

“We expect this to be the beginning of a new tradition in Perth, where all hip hop lovers come together and celebrate the roots of this music,” Mr Sabawo said.

The cruise is scheduled to depart Barrack Street jetty at 7pm on Thursday April 24, and will go on till late. The cruise costs $30, with light food provided. Call Ikee on 0403740830 for a ticket to the over 18s event.
